Buenos Aires, Dec 21 (NA) -- Estudiantes de La Plata coach Eduardo Domínguez conditioned his continuity at the club to a decision by the leadership and left a public message amid the celebrations for recent titles, in a context marked by the lack of definition regarding the renewal of his contract.
During the celebration at Plaza Moreno in the city of La Plata, following the victory in the Trofeo de Campeones against Platense and the championship in the Torneo Clausura, fans expressed their support for the coach with chants in favor of his stay.
Faced with this constant support, Domínguez was blunt about his future: "I thank you from the bottom of my heart, but it depends on Marcos (Angeleri), not on me," he said, in a direct reference to the club's sporting director.
The coach then thanked the different departments of the institution and again mentioned the management: "Thank you all. From there, something good will always come out."
"Thanks to the players, many thanks to Marcos, many thanks to the management," he expressed. And, as reported by the Argentine News Agency, the coach added a phrase that left the expectation of continuity open: "We hope to be better next year."
With the recent titles, Domínguez reached his fifth title at the helm of Estudiantes. "We have new goals ahead, it will be more complex. I hope it is, obviously, with Eduardo at the head," he added.
In this way, he became the second most winning coach in the club's history, only behind Osvaldo Zubeldía, who has six titles, including three Copa Libertadores.
The coach's situation was also addressed by Juan Sebastián Verón, president of Estudiantes, who emphasized the need for dialogue and planning: "I don't know if I should say retain, but we have to give ourselves the space and time to be able to talk, plan."
"We want to approach it in a certain way. In growth, we all have to try to support each other, see each other, build, be self-critical."
